Big Success For Sacramento Film Festival Alumni

1/2/06

Huge news for filmmakers participating in 2005 Sacramento Film Festival.

Consider a film entitled Matisyahu by David Baugnon. This doc which screened in 05's festival is an intimate portrait of an unknown hasidic Jew turned reggae rapper, Matisyahu. If that name rings a bell it should. Now Matisyahu has a single at #15 on the Billboard chart. The song is King Without a Crown. Check it out. Congratulations to him and to the filmmaker who chronicled his amazing and unexpected rise to pop stardom.

The Sacramento International Film Festival earns a reputation for debuting outstanding work. Here are more films receiving praises and distribution deals following appearances at the Sacramento Film Festival:

Saints and Soldiers Nationwide TV Debut
Winner of Best Film at the Sacramento Festival of Cinema, Saints and Soldiers makes its National TV debut in November on the History Channel. Festival Managing Director Martin Anaya describes the film this way. "Once in a while a truly special film makes its way to into our hearts. Saints and Soldiers is such a film. I championed this film to run in Sacramento two years ago because I knew the performances and story were simply transcendent. I'm glad to know the whole country will now have a chance to see what we saw. No film or group of filmmakers I have met are more deserving of such an honor."

Shellmound—Environmental Visions
After enjoying its Sacramento premiere as part of our Environmental Visions program, Shellmound has just made its TV debut on KQED ch. 9 Oakland. Look for more Shellmound PBS screenings upcoming. SHELLMOUND examines the decisions made during the toxic cleanup and construction of the Emeryville mall through the eyes of the City officials, developers, and the natives who worked on the site.

Four Dead Batteries 2005 Outstanding Latino Film
Sacramento International Film Festival

Winner of eleven film festival awards, including several Best Comedy and Best Feature awards, FOUR DEAD BATTERIES is now available exclusively through Amazon.com. F.D.B. tells the story of four New York City improvisers struggling with life, love, sex and fidelity; typical guys, revealing typical guy truths.

The Aryan couple
A John Daly film starring Martin Landau

Everyone remembers special Festival guest John Daly, producer of such hits as Platoon and The Terminator. What's he up to these days? John's company announced that its first theatrical release of THE ARYAN COUPLE, starring Martin Landau, will screen nationally from January 2006. John teams up with Gabriel Byrne and Val Kilmer for his next project, Played. More detail as it's available on that!

For those who missed the '05 Sacramento Film Festival premiere, Oscar winner Martin Landau plays wealthy Jewish steel magnate Josef Krauzenberg, who together with his wife Rachel (Judy Parfitt) is forced by Heinrich Himmler and Adolph Eichmann to turn over his empire to them to pay for his family's safe passage out of the country. The Aryan Couple is directed, produced and co-written by Award Winning John Daly (Platoon, The Last Emperor).
