San Francisco's Broken Promise
Carol Lancaster Mingus
Over 80 years ago, with passage of the Raker Act, Congress allowed San Francisco to create a dam in the Hetch Hetchy Valley, in Yosemite National Park. San Francisco agreed to create a public power and water system which was to serve as an example for the nation. Instead, San Francisco granted Pacific Gas and Electric exclusive right to sell power generated by this dam and continues to do so even after a 1940 Supreme Court decision stating that this was a violation of the Raker Act.
San Francisco's deep rooted political corruption, national deception and on-going defiance of a United States Supreme Court ruling is the focus of this half hour documentary.
